Every school in the Waterloo Region District School Board has a library. School libraries receive instructional program and technical support from central staff in Information Technology Services. Information Technology Services also provides central libraries for staff and student instructional support.
Secondary School Libraries
Secondary school libraries are staffed by teacher-librarians. They have responsibility for all aspects of the instructional program, collection development, and library management.
Connect to your high school library’s website for information about the programs and services and learning support offered at your school library.
Elementary School Libraries
Each elementary school receives program support from a Digital Literacy Support Teacher (DLST), focusing on leveraging technology for learning. The DLST is also responsible for promoting the role of the school library and its resources in supporting learning, and for library collection development and associated standards. The day-to-day operation of the library is the responsibility of the school’s library clerk. Procedural support is provided by a central library support analyst.
The WRDSB Virtual Library
The WRDSB Virtual Library provides quality subscription online content for all staff and students in the Waterloo Region District School Board. These subscription databases are essential resources for quality research, providing easy access to a broad and diverse range of resources for students and staff.
Library Program and Technical Support
The Library and Resource Services section of ITS provides professional learning opportunities for all library staff, in addition to technical, cataloguing and collection management support for elementary, secondary and central libraries.
